Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has claimed that an unnamed Premier League club tried to sign him this summer before his move to Stamford Bridge.

Marseca led Leicester to the Championship title last season, with the Foxes claiming a total of 97 points and promotion to the Premier League. However, Chelsea swooped in for the Italian, with Steve Cooper since being appointed as his successor heading into an important season.

The Blues initially had their eyes set on Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Brentford's Thomas Frank, among others. As it turns out, Maresca has now revealed that he had contact with a Premier League team right before finalising a move to the west London club.

Speaking to the media, Maresca revealed another 'important club' tried to sign him, he said: "They asked me, ‘Do we still have time or is it too late?’ But by then I was already taking my decision."

Chelsea have scheduled a string of of friendlies this summer as they hope to have a much better start in the Premier League than they did last season. Maresca has led the Blues into three warm-up matches so far, with three more games left to negotiate before the start of the Premier League season.
